My Professional Background

I earned my Masters in Counseling (Marriage and Family Therapy) from San Diego State University. My associate license is registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, and I am an active member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT).

In a former career, I also earned a PhD in Biology from the University of California, San Diego. Admittedly, I’m mentioning this fancier degree more for academic credibility — or what you might refer to as “bragging rights” — than to showcase relevant clinical experience.

I’ve also been a dating and relationships writer since 2008, and that was part of the impetus for me deciding to become a therapist. For all the details on my professional background, here are my résumé and LinkedIn profile.

With a background in both the sciences and the arts, I straddle left-brained logical reasoning and right-brained emotional processing in my work. My belief is that as thinking, feeling human beings, all aspects of our psyche must be considered when working to improve our relationships and our own personal mental health.
